SUSIE KING TAYLOR CENTER FOR JUBILEE #WeDidIt!
2023
March 25, 2023, hosted the national theatrical production of “Antigone in Savannah”; (Please see video below featuring Actress Tracey Toms reenacting Susie King Taylor and reading from Taylor's own words from her 1902 Memoir, Reminiscences of my Life in Camp)
SKT House & Gallery hosted the Launch Cast Party for Antigone in Savannah - Oscar-Award Winning Actors;
The Coalition to Name Taylor Square successfully received a unanimous approval in November 24, 2023, to name a City of Savannah public square in honor of Susie King Taylor;
SKT Center opened the SKT House & Gallery under a 1-year lease;
Exhibit, “Unlikely Liberators” was curated featuring African American/Japanese American soldiers in World War IIIwho were the liberators of survivors of the Holocaust;
SKT House hosted weekly heritage lunch & dinners in partnership with national and international tour companies in partnership with Underground Tours;
The Center hosted Georgia Southern University with Dr. Renee Jenkins and her Doctoral Dissertation celebration.
Educational Tour and Gullah Geechee Luncheon Buffet with high school students from The Galloway School, Atlanta, GA;
Our Grant Writing Committee received a national grant to track genealogy and history of theWanderer Slave ship;
2024
Partnering with The Truth Telling Project in drafting first time-ever legislation and town Hall Meetings statewide on Reparations with the GA Black Legislative Council - January 16, 2024;
Partnering with State Rep Gilliard, Chair of the GA Black Caucus, and drafting a Letter of Endorsement of HB 1425 for Chairman Ellis' signage.
